In order to gain comparative information for the stiffness and ultimate tensile strength of the materials, a load test was carried out using the Instron 4411. Coupons were milled according the ASTM D638 standard using the Type IV geometry.
The phenolic paper performed the best. Two sets of coupons were milled from this material, oriented 90 degrees from one another. This showed that this material is anisotropic which should be taken into consideration when assessing the bulk properties of the final structure.
